Introduction & First Assignment for the 28th

Hey everyone!

I’m Urvi Patel & I’m a freshman here at Mason majoring in Business Administration.

Reading through Bush’s “As We May Think,” really got me thinking about how even though the development of “new instruments” in the field of science has always been positive in my eyes, it has its fair share of cons too that I had never really thought about before. Bush speaks on how he thinks that “we are being bogged down today as specialization extends.” This very quickly became food for thought to me because I began to think about all of the ways in which having a keyboard at our fingertips has become cause for our lack in other abilities such as proper communication skills for one. Living in a world where texting, emailing, and IM-ing has made it difficult for some people to create social skills with which they can carry proper conversations with other people. I think learning about the negativity can make for very interesting discussion in class.

Three potential topics that I would be interested in researching are: 1) Imperialism: British Raj in India 2) Renaissance and 3)  Catherine the Great
